TEAM KTI & HOTSHOTS TEAM

Korean Taekwondo Institute trains students to compete in Taekwondo tournaments for Sparring, Poomsae, Creative Breaking and Weapons. Team members train throughout the week to advance their physical and mental skills in preparation for local, National, and International events. These are special teams with additional rules that team members have to follow along with a strong commitment.

SPARRING

WTF Taekwondo sparring is a full medal sport in the Olympics and other major international sporting events. Team KTI learns the technical skills and strategies to compete in local tournaments. The team practices offensive techniques leveraging different types of kicking and footwork and defensive techniques such as blocking. In addition, the team trains to improve endurance and strength. Those who enjoy sparring competition enjoy taking chances, being tough, and responding to the unpredictability of the match.

POOMSAE

Team KTI trains to excel at a set sequence of movements that consists of the various fundamental stances, blocks, punches and kicks logically arranged in a meaningful order in response to attacks from multiple imaginary assailants. Each Poomsae pattern consists of an established sequence of movements which has a philosophical meaning, and each Poomsae has its own character and distinct quality. Team KTI uses this training to compete at local tournaments.

CREATIVE BREAKING & WEAPONS

In Creative Breaking and Weapons competition, Team KTI's competitors use powerful, correctly executed Taekwondo hand and foot techniques to break pine boards. Competitors are expected to display technical skill and proper Taekwondo manner, as well as showmanship and creativity including the use of a range of flying and spinning kicks. The weapons competitors incorporate choreographed routines that are performed while showcasing their weapon handling abilities.

NATIONALS TEAM

Team KTI's Nationals Team is an elite competition team that focuses on Olympic-style Taekwondo Sparring. Team training focuses on sparring, conditioning, and tournament strategy with the goal of competing and winning in National and International level tournaments. Team members must be dedicated to the sport of Taekwondo, have family support to meet advanced Taekwondo goals, and be able to travel out of state to compete. Training commitments for this team include extended hours, weekends, cross-school sessions, and special seminars.
